Twitter Reactions: Fans want Haris Rauf back after Dale Steyn gives away 20 runs against Adelaide Strikers on his debut
Steyn failed to prove his mettle in his debut game of Big Bash League.
Melbourne Stars are currently involved in the 13th match of Big Bash League 2019-20. It was a vital game because Dale Steyn was going to mark his first-ever appearance in the Australian T20 league. However, it didn’t go well for the former South African pacer and the fans lambasted on Twitter for his poor start. They even requested to bring back young Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf back into the team.
Dale Steyn was signed by Melbourne Stars earlier this year for BBL 2019-20. He was going to make his debut in the season opener for his side but due to a side strain, his debut in the high-profile tournament got delayed. On Thursday, Melbourne Stars announced 13-men squad in which they included Steyn and dropped the in-form pacer Haris Rauf from the team that was going to lock horns with Adelaide Strikers.
Adelaide Strikers opener smashed Dale Steyn upside down
It was a surprising decision taken by the think tank of Melbourne Stars because the 26-year-old pacer Haris Rauf, who was called as the replacement of Steyn, didn’t let his team feel the absence of the former Proteas bowler. Rauf took seven wickets in his two appearances with one five-wicket haul. The fans were liking the way he was bowling and deceiving the batsmen with his pace.
Melbourne Stars won the toss and elected to field first. However, the first over of the innings was bowled by Daniel Worrall, who gave away nine runs and the second over was given to none other than Dale Steyn.
The 36-year-old darted his first delivery of the over at a pace of 137km/hr and Jake Weatherald defended it well. Many fans thought that they will get to see Steyn’s lethal spell on the ground but that was not the case. The Strikers’ opener smashed two back to back sixes and boundaries on his next four deliveries.
Dale Steyn was left clueless and was left with nothing much in his debut game, who was welcomed with 20 runs in his first five balls of Big Bash League. However, in the end, the 36-year-old speedster dismissed Weatherald, who was caught by Maxwell on the last delivery of the second over.
After watching a woeful performance from Dale Steyn in his debut game, netizens took social media with storm and asked Melbourne Stars to bring back Haris Rauf back into the team.
