Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals locked horns against each other in the afternoon affair of the Indian Premier League (IPL). To the exuberant fans’ dismay, the match number 51 could not live up to the billing of a usual-thriller ending. As it turned out, Mumbai Indians dominated the show making the match a completely one-sided affair from the word go. Subsequently, the Shreyas Iyer-led side continues its losing streak.

Going ahead towards the match, Mumbai Indians made 2 crucial amendments to the playing XI. Jayant Yadav was roped in place of Hardik Pandya and Nathan Coulter-Nile came in at the expense of James Pattinson. As far as Delhi’s squad is concerned, Pravin Dubey took guards replacing the tweaker Axar Patel whereas Prithwi Shaw was back in action along with Harshal Patel.

Coming to the match, the coin landed in MI’s favour. Choosing to bowl first, Kieron Pollard made a wise decision on the pitch which had an element of surprise for the batsman. As it unfolded, the pace troika spearheaded by the brilliant Jasprit Bumrah stunned the out of form Delhi batsmen. Trent Boult drew the first blood in the form of Shikhar Dhawan. Not too long after the in-form swashbuckler departed, Prithvi Shaw threw away his wicket for a paltry 10 runs.

Eventually, pressure mounted on the captain Shreyas Iyer and power-hitter Rishabh Pant. Failing to perform to the expectations, the Mumbai-based batsman was stumped for 25 runs owing to cheeky glovework by Quinton De Kock. After the heavyweight’s dismissal, it was a one-man show by the tearaway pacer Jasprit Bumrah who has the ability to run through the line-ups. Grabbing the crucial wickets in the form Rishabh Pant and Marcus Stoinis, the highest-wicket-taker in the ongoing season stamped his authority in the Dubai International Stadium.

While the former was lbw after mustering a meagre 21 runs, the latter had to show his back after a blinder of a delivery edged past his bat completely baffling him only to get into the mighty gloves of the wicket-keeper. Eventually, Delhi appeared to be nowhere in the entire innings as the lethal bowling unit of the blue outfit bludgeoned the rest of the batting line-up.

With 5 wickets down for 62 runs, it was understood that the team would not be able to post a respectable total. True to the expectation, the Delhi-based outfit managed to notch only 110 runs after the end of 20 overs thanks to a massive six hammered by Kagiso Rabada before he was run out at the last ball of the innings.

Ishan Kishan once again scores a half-century

MI didn’t fret to hunt down the target. As the dashing openers- in the form of Quinton De Kock and Ishan Kishan stepped into the field, they appeared to be in no mood to take the game down to the wire. Cementing a solid-foundation, the classy-duo amassed 68 runs in the first 10 overs smashing 9 electrifying fours. Anrich Nortje dismissing De Kock was the only consolation in the innings for the Capitals.

Inching closer to triumph, Ishan Kishan again displayed his prowess scoring an unbeaten 72 proving his worth to the cricketing world as the four-time champions got over the line in the 15th over. With this win, Mumbai Indians are comfortably stationed at the top of the points table. Tensions continue to echo in the Capitals’ dressing room. They will now need to comprehensively win the last match of the league stage against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday.
