Twitter Reactions: Ishant Sharma completes 250 wickets in Test cricket
He is currently playing in his 86th Test match.
When Ishant Sharma troubled the then Australia captain Ricky Ponting in 2008 during his first trip to the country, he was tipped to become one of the best bowlers for India. But somehow the lanky fast bowler lost his sheen and was even dropped from the team. But Ishant has turned around his career superbly in the last few years and has grown as the leader of the attack, especially overseas.
In the ongoing Test series between India and England, he has bowled beautifully with the new ball and has made sure that his team has the early advantage. In the meantime, Ishant also completed 250 Test wickets by scalping the priced wicket of opposition skipper Joe Root. He brought the ball prodigiously in to catch the batsman off-guard and trapped him in front of the stumps.
It took 86 Test matches for him to reach the milestone which is the second slowest in the format. Many criticise him for not getting many wickets after playing a considerable amount of matches. But the way he has been bowling in the last couple of years has seen the second coming of the fast bowler.
Ishant leading in England
India, after a grand home season, were set to be on the road for the major part of 2018. They went to South Africa and lost the series by 2-1. However, Ishant bowled exceptionally well and kept the batsmen on the tenterhooks all the time in helpful conditions. Fast forward to the Test series against England, the team had lost their most reliable bowlers in Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah.
It was important for Ishant Sharma to stand up and take up the challenge. The experienced bowler stood tall and responded with a five-wicket haul at Edgbaston straight away. Now with Bumrah being fit, the duo is threatening to run through England’s line-up in a hurry. As far as Ishant’s performance in the series is concerned, he is the second highest wicket-taker with 12 scalps to his name and is looking good to pick even more.
Twitterati hailed him for reaching the feat and hoped that he continues to bowl well for the rest of the series.
