Wade's half-century went in vain.

A special effort was needed to take down the team like Hobart Hurricanes this season and the Sydney Sixers did the same at the SCG in the 40th match of the Big Bash League (BBL). After D’Arcy Short and Matthew Wade gun down the run-chase unbeaten a couple of days, their team suffered a similar kind of fate today as Josh Philippe and James Vince stitched an unbeaten stand of 167 runs to win a memorable game for the Sixers.
After being set a steep target of 173 runs, the Sydney Sixers, playing for a cause today, lose Daniel Hughes in the very first over. James Faulkner nipped him out to put the home side in trouble but little did he knew that no wicket will fall later. Philippe was in the mood today to smash the bowlers and he ripped them apart in the powerplay and continued to play the same way after that as well.
Vince, meanwhile, was slow to get off the blocks and then caught up with his partner as the duo had a field day with the bat. None of the Hurricanes’ bowlers was spared on the day as the visitors endured a rare off-day in the office. While Philippe remained unbeaten on 86 off 49 balls, Vince scored 74 as the target was chased down in the 18th over itself with nine wickets in hand.
This win has propelled the Sixers to the second position in the points with six wins to their name after 11 matches and the race for the knockouts intensifies even more.
Wade leads the way
Earlier, after opting to bowl first, the hosts couldn’t break through early. The famous opening duo of Short and Wade added 67 runs yet again in less than eight overs. Despite Short getting out, the skipper Wade continued playing his shots and slammed another half-century while Ben McDermott also scored 41 off 31 balls.
But the Sixers bowled tight lines throughout the 20 overs and didn’t let them score more than 180 runs which according to them was the par-score it seems. Eventually, the tactics worked big time for the Men in Pink as Philippe and Vince’s special effort handed them their sixth win of the season.

Best batting display (comfortably) of this season from the Sixers. Match has been as good as done for a while, but the Philippe/Vince partnership has been a joy to watch. Josh Philippe might be a name we're hearing about for some time to come. #BBL08
