It seems more like a trend in T20 cricket now as the chasing teams have been winning games with ease. We saw it in the recently postponed PSL and now we are seeing it in the Road Safety World Series as well. The first two matches, since its return, had been won by the sides batting second and third game was no different.

England Legends won the toss and Kevin Pietersen made the obvious decision to bowl first. Nazimuddin and Javed Omar walked out to open the batting for Bangladesh. They did play 10-15 deliveries each but failed to get going. The rest of the top order couldn’t do much either which meant the side had a score of 55-5 at the end of the first 10 overs.

Bangladesh were in deep trouble and definitely needed someone to consolidate the inning. Khaled Mashud and Mushfiqur Rahman did step up in that sense. While the former scored 31 runs the latter mustered 30. Mashud, however, took 39 balls to reach 31 runs before walking out retired hurt. This extremely conservative approach meant that the side could score only 113 runs at the end of their 20 overs.

Kevin Pietersen rolls back the years

Chris Tremlett was the pick of the bowlers as he took a couple of wickets in the two overs he bowled. A target of 114 was never going to be tough for an English side that had some very good batsman. Phil Mustard and Kevin Pietersen walked out to open the batting for the England side and played some very aggressive cricket. The former was dismissed after scoring a quickfire 27 off 16 balls.

Pietersen, however, continued his hitting and showed just how good he is even at this age. He scored 42 runs off only 17 deliveries before being dismissed by Mohammad Rafique. His knock included seven boundaries and one big six. By the time he was dismissed, the game was already in England’s pocket.

Darren Maddy scored 32 runs off as many balls to guide his team to a comfortable victory. They won the match by seven wickets with six overs to spare. England have started off their campaign with an emphatic win while Bangladesh have now lost both their games thus far.
