The second day’s play of the 2nd Test between India and South Africa went totally in the hands of the hosts and it was nothing less than a day of Indian skipper Virat Kohli who showed why he is known as the best batsman in the world and also the run machine of the team.

Kohli played a marathon knock of unbeaten 254 runs and declared the first innings after his team posted a mammoth total of 601 runs at the loss of 5 wickets and the last Indian wicket to fall was of Ravindra Jadeja, who gave away his wicket to Senuran Muthusamy and missed his 2nd Test hundred by 9 runs getting out on the score of 91.

Virat Kohli steals the show on Day 2

Kohli got his first century of 2019 and then knitted a brilliant knock of 254 runs. He attained his highest individual score in Tests. 30-year-old was making the South African bowlers a bunny out of them that piled up some frustration in the bowlers of visitors who struggled to get his wicket throughout the day but remained unsuccessful in getting it.

The top-order batsman broke several records as he became the first Indian to score as many as 40 tons as a captain and the fourth fastest in the world to score 26th Test tons. Kohli started off his day with 63 and got his ton in the 109th over during the first session of the day, later on, he converted it into his 7th double. South African bowlers looked quite helpless as they were not getting any support from the pitch and couldn’t take advantage of the chances.

Chances missed and catches dropped

The first chance of the day of Indian innings was missed by Temba Bavuma who remained unsuccessful in hitting the stumps in his quest to run-out Indian vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and a catch dropped by Quinton de Kock on the delivery of Vernon Philander later termed costly for the visitors.

Just after Kohli scored his double hundred, he got fluked by a ball bowled by Senuran Muthusamy and was caught by Faf du Plessis in the slips but the umpire signaled it as no-ball after that the 30-year-old Indian player ended up his inning with unbeaten 254.

Indian bowlers – The icing on the cake

Umesh Yadav who was picked up by the Indian skipper over Hanuma Vihari went into the favor of Team India who took two wickets in his four-over spell. And then Shami replicated his form of 1st match and was seen making the life of Proteas batsmen miserable on the pitch. The visitors were out of clue over how to play the Bengal pacer. He opened his first spell of the match with a back of a length delivery that went straight into the hands of Wriddhiman Saha taking a shear edge from the willow of Bavuma.
