Twitter Reactions: KL Rahul bags a golden duck on LSG debut courtesy a ripper from Mohammed Shami
Not many were expecting for KL Rahul to fail given his consistency in the last three seasons.
Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul was dismissed for a golden duck courtesy of a peach of a delivery from Mohammed Shami in Match 5 of IPL 2022 against the Gujarat Titans. After losing the toss, the Lucknow Super Giants faced an early setback with their skipper going without troubling the scorers and it certainly wasn’t the start that the fans of Lucknow would have expected in their first game of the tournament.
Rahul was drafted into the side ahead of the mega auction for INR 17 Crores and was named as the skipper of the side. The right-hander has been among the best players in the last few seasons of the IPL and was consistently stacking up runs for the Punjab Kings franchise at the top of the order despite the franchise not doing well.
Rahul won the Orange Cap in IPL 2020 with 670 runs in 14 games, and has transformed into one of the vital cogs in the Indian setup at the moment.
Shami bowls an unplayable delivery
Coming back to Rahul’s wicket, Shami bowled a beautiful outswinger that curved away after pitching. The batter found the slightest of edges which carried to the wicket-keeper. Initially, the umpire wasn’t convinced that Rahul had nicked it as there were two sounds simultaneously. However, Gujarat skipper Hardik Pandya went for a review and it showed a clear spike when the ball passed Rahul’s bat.
It has to be noted that Rahul hasn’t had much game time after the ODI series against the West Indies which could have been one of the reasons behind his early dismissal. In IPL 2021, KL Rahul started off the tournament with a bang, scoring a 50-ball 91 in a high-scoring game and went on to finish third in the race for the Orange cap with 626 runs in 14 games.
The Lucknow fans will be hoping that their skipper comes back with a stunning performance in the next game to make up for his golden duck.
