KL Rahul has further cemented his spot in India’s ODI team by scoring a scintillating century in the ongoing second ODI against England at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Critics were taking shots at him for his poor outing in the T20I series but the right-handed batsman has pretty much shut them up with his impressive displays in the ongoing ODI series so far.
Rahul played an unbeaten knock of 62 off just 43 balls to help India recover from 205 for 5 in the 41st over to post 317 for 5 in the first ODI. He had also shared an unbeaten 112-run stand with Krunal Pandya. India had gone on to win the game by 66 runs to take the lead in the three-match series. Making the most of his form, Rahul scored his 5th ODI ton in the 2nd ODI against England.
It was his 11th fifty-plus score since the start of the 2019 World Cup and the first ODI century since the one against New Zealand in February 2020. The century was also his fourth fifty-plus score in the previous five ODI innings.
KL Rahul continues fine run in ODIs:
KL Rahul came out to bat at number four in the ongoing game. He had batted at number five in the previous game but was promoted for the ongoing game in absence of injured Shreyas Iyer. The change of batting position, however, did not have any effect on his form as he scored a stunning century. Rahul started cautiously and relied more on singles and doubles early on in his innings.
Rahul came out to bat as early as the 9th over after India lost their second opener in the form of Rohit Sharma. With the team in a precarious situation, Rahul did not take any risk as he batted as per the situation. It took his 66 deliveries to touch the 50-run mark. He upped the ante after reaching his fifty and scored his second fifty off just 43 balls to reach his century off 108 balls with the help of 6 boundaries and 2 sixes. He reached his century in the 44th over with a single of Sam Curran’s delivery. Soon after Rahul reached his century, the cricketing fraternity lavished praise on him.
Here are some of the reactions:
Rahul needed just a little time for himself while batting, to get back into form. 50 overs cricket allows one that time. Important that he carries this form/confidence now.👏👏👏#KLRahul
