The Lahore Qalandars side beat the Islamabad United outfit by 6 runs in a cliffhanger of a contest to qualify for the summit clash against the Multan Sultans outfit. Set a target of 169 for victory, the Islamabad United outfit got off to a poor start and lost their first 4 wickets with just 46 runs on the board.
But then, Alex Hales and Azam Khan put on a partnership of 79 runs for the 5th wicket. The Islamabad United side then lost 2 quick wickets, as both Azam Khan and Hales fell in quick succession.
And after that, the game slipped away from the Islamabad United side’s grasp, and they were bowled out for a total of 162. With the ball, Shaheen Afridi, Zaman Khan and Haris Rauf scalped 2 wickets each and constantly put the brakes on the opposition. The match went down to the wire, had several twists and turns that kept the fans at the edge of their seats. But in the end, the Lahore Qalandars lived to fight another day.
Abdullah Shafique’s half-century propels Lahore Qalandars to 168/7
Lahore Qalandars batted first and scored a challenging total of 168/7. Abdullah Shafique top-scored for the Shaheen Afridi led side and plundered a quickfire 28-ball 52. His innings was embellished with 4 fours and 3 sixes.
Apart from Shafique, Kamran Ghulam scored 30 off 26 deliveries. David Wiese then came in and lent the ammunition in the end overs, and bludgeoned a blistering 8-ball 28* to help his side past the 160-run mark.
With the ball, Liam Dawson and Mohammad Wasim Jr scalped 2 wickets each, while skipper Shadab Khan and Waqas Maqsood each picked up a solitary scalp.
