Twitter Reactions: Late blows bring Bangladesh back in the game
Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and decided to bat first, it didn’t look like the best call as Imrul Kayes was dismissed by Chris Woakes with just one run on the board. But thereafter the Bangladeshi pair of Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haque stitched together a cruising 170-run partnership. While Tamim was the aggressor among the two Mominul also got into the act and scored crucial runs for the team.
The opener enjoyed his stay at the crease and played some crisp shots, he hit as many as 12 boundaries in his 147-ball 104 runs knock. His partner Mominul scored a half century but just when things started to look pretty comfortable and the time to cash on after having put in the hard work Tamim was trapped lbw by England off-spinner Moeen Ali. While the left-hander would have wished to convert the hundred into a big one, the fact that his team crumbled to a nothing score after his dismissal would hurt him even more.
Ali having scalped Tamim also dismissed the other set batsman bowled and with that ticked the collapse. No Bangladeshi batsman after the duo managed to get into the 20s and only three of them even got the double figures. The off-spinner was the wrecker in chief as he grabbed a five-wicket haul and had figures of 19.5-5-57-5. England pacers Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes also deserve the credit for using reverse swing to good effect in the post Tea session.
Both the bowlers got into the act and ran through the lower order to restrict Bangladesh to 220 after they were 1 down with 170 runs on the board at one stage. Having lost the momentum in the last part of the inning, the Bangladeshi unit started the proceedings against England with the same plan as opted for in the last game and were able to expose their weakness immediately. The spin pair of Mehedi Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan gave them three blows before the end of day with just 50 runs on the board and pulled things back in control before rain resulted in early stumps.
