Twitter reactions: Lynn’s blitz seals a riveting win for Heat
Chris Lynn hammered an unbeaten 85 run knock laced with 10 boundaries and 3 sixes to lead Brisbane Heat to a fighting 3 wicket over the Sydney Thunder. The Thunder’s title defence has not got to a good start at all having lost all their previous three games. They came close to end their winless streak but Lynn turned out to be too superior for their bowling attack. Four dropped catches also played its role in the downfall.
It would be safe to say that it was a completely bowler-dominated day barring Lynn classy batting show. The Heat, as well as the Thunder, suffered batting slides before recovering with the help of a single man’s brilliance. While as mentioned above, Lynn did it for the Heats and for the Thunder, it was Eoin Morgan who rescued them from the shambles with a counter-attacking 52 which came from 43 balls.
After being put into bat first, the Thunder had a wrong start as they lost Ryan Gibson and Shane Watson for cheap scores. While Gibson’s departure did not create any issue, Watson six balls duck obviously raised questions and made the fans jump out of frustration. Kurtis Patterson played a supportive knock and rebuilt the inning along with Eoin Morgan before losing his wicket in the 11th over.
Russell was allowed to use his black bat but the controversy creating blade could not help him return to form. He made just eight runs with his 10 ball knock featuring a bat change. But, fortunately, Morgan handled the situation and hit a streaky knock to lay the platform for Ben Roher and Chris Green to play cameos and help their team post a functional total.
Heat’s response was all about Chris Lynn. The chase came with its share of wobbliness as they suffered two mini collapses but luckily emerged as victorious eventually. Clint McKay and Pat Cummins initially reduced the chasing side to 19/3 before they suffered another collapse and crumbled down to 63/6 after having recovered to 56/3. Lynn struggled for able allies but kept the battle going with his batting flow and eventually with the help of Jack Wildermuth (29 from 20 balls) overhauled the target with two balls to spare.
