The Sylhet Stadium was a witness to another low-scoring affair between Sylhet Sixers and Comilla Victorians. In the end, Comilla comfortably won by eight wickets. Even as the Victorians, captained by Imrul Kayes, garnered their third victory this season, the Sixers slumped to their third defeat. To add to their agony, they have moved below Khulna Titans are the new cellar dwellers of the T20 tournament.

Samad rattles the Sixers

The Victorian’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss, paid off as they bowled their opponents out for a paltry 68 in 14.5 overs. Off-spinner Mahedi Hasan drew first blood with Andre Fletcher’s wicket and then he sent back David Warner in the same over. The tweaker picked up his third wicket in the over in the form of Afif Hossain. Mohammad Saifuddin sent Nicholas Pooran packing in the next over.

Thereafter, it was Liam Dawson’s turn to add to the wicket’s column as he picked up Liton Das and Sabbir Rahman. Mahedi nipped out Sohail Tanvir and reduced the Sixers to 22 for seven in 7.4 overs. Alok Kapali was the saving grace for the Sixers as he scored 33 from 31 balls with four fours and a six. He was the only Sixers’ batsman to enter the double figures. Wahab Riaz also picked up three wickets.

Rahman and Kayes complete formalities

The run-chase didn’t start on a happy note for the Victorians as Anamul Haque Bijoy was ran out by Afif for a two-ball duck. A couple of overs later, the experienced Tamim Iqbal fell prey to Sohail Tanvir. The left-handed batsman couldn’t open his account after facing six balls. At that point in time, the hosts would’ve hoped to make a comeback that looked improbable at the start of the second innings.

Nevertheless, Shamsur Rahman and captain Imrul Kayes didn’t let the pressure unnerve them and they put their heads down to cobble together a partnership of 59 runs from 51 balls to take their team home without any further hiccup. While Shamsur ended up with 34 runs off 37 deliveries with five boundaries. Kayes pressed the accelerator and racked up 30 runs in 22 balls with two fours and as many sixes.
