Twitter Reactions: Mohammad Abbas runs through the Aussie batting line-up as Pakistan seal the series
Abbas ended the series with 17 wickets.
When was the last time Australia were hamstrung by a fast bowler’s brilliance? They prepared to tackle the spin threat of Yasir Shah and Bilal Asif but Mohammad Abbas ended up being the hero for Pakistan in the two-match series. He ended up with 17 wickets across four innings and more so, 10 wickets in the second and final Test as Pakistan sealed the series by winning the Abu Dhabi Test by 373 runs.
The day started with a bad news for both the teams. Sarfraz Ahmed was sent to the hospital for the concussion tests in the morning after he was hit on the helmet by Peter Siddle’s bouncer on the third day while it was also confirmed that Usman Khawaja will not bat in the second innings following his injury. Australia began their day with the overnight batsmen Aaron Finch and Travis Head hoping to delay the inevitable.
They attacked the ball compared to the previous day and were successful in garnering some runs quickly. But Mohammad Abbas was once again at work as he first made Head edge a fuller length delivery to the wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan. The same bowler then trapped Mitchell Marsh in front of the stumps and soon was all over the visitors.
Aaron Finch was undone with a sharp incoming delivery while the skipper Tim Paine misjudged a straighter one which went on to peg back his off-stump. At 78/5, it seemed like that Pakistan will wrap things up soon.
Labuschagne and Starc deny Pakistan for a while
Marnus Labuschagne and Mitchell Starc, however, denied them a wicket for 16 overs as they added 67 runs for the sixth wicket. The former showed some good technique against the spinner in order to cement his place in the line-up for the upcoming series. Though once the partnership was broken, Yasir Shah quickly ran through the lower-order quickly after the lunch.
Meanwhile, Abbas completed a ten-wicket haul in the match by sending back Labuschagne with a bouncer and eventually Australia were bundled out for 164 runs. Abbas registered best figures for a Pakistan fast bowler in Tests in last 10 years as he was awarded Man of the Series for a stellar performance.
