Twitter Reactions: Mumbai Indians end winless streak, beat CSK by 8 wickets
Mumbai Indians beat Chennai Super Kings by 8 wickets.
The Mumbai Indians ended their winless drought in the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League. They beat the Chennai Super Kings by 8 wickets in an away fixture at Pune. Coming into the game, they were under immense pressure to perform. They had lost five out of the previous six games that they had played in the season. Hence, this particular game was more or less a must win game for them.
As the things turned out in the match, the Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front to help his side chase 169 in the match. Rohit remained unbeaten on 56 to see his side over the line with 8 wickets in hand. They will certainly take a lot of positives from the game since they beat the top side of the season.
Earlier in the game, the Chennai Super Kings were invited to bat first after Mumbai Indians won the toss. The hosts did not get a good start as they lost Shane Watson early in the innings. Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu then steadied the ship for them to recover from the early jolt. A crucial 71 run stand followed which was broken by Krunal Pandya in the 12th over of the match. Pandya dismissed Rayudu, who looked in fabulous touch for his 35-ball 46.
Raina was joined by MS Dhoni at the crease. Dhoni added some valuable 26 runs before perishing in an attempt to accelerate in the late overs. The wickets followed from the other end as Raina reached his fifty. Raina finished with an unbeaten 75 off just 47 deliveries with 6 fours and 4 sixes to see the Chennai Super Kings finish with 169/5 in their allotted 20 overs.
In the run chase, Mumbai Indians got off to a good start with the openers adding 69 runs for the first wicket. Albeit they added good runs on the board, the rate at which they accumulated the runs was not very impressive. While Suryakumar Yadav played fluently, Evin Lewis largely struggled. Yadav perished with a score of 44 (34) to his name. Lewis perished 7 overs later with 43-ball 47 to his name.
The untimely departure of Lewis created a major scare for the Mumbai Indians. Rohit Sharma was joined by Hardik Pandya at the crease and the two senior members of the side showed great character to hold on to their nerves in the match and stayed unbeaten till the very end.
