Twitter Reactions: New Zealand complete Bangladesh's annihilation with a thumping win in 3rd T20I
With this, Bangladesh lost the T20I series 3-0, following their ODI series loss of 3-0.
Bangladesh ended their tour of New Zealand in the worst way possible. The Blackcaps team won the third and final T20I at Eden Park in Auckland on Thursday by 65 runs. In a shortened game, the Bangladesh team under the captaincy of Liton Das, who stood for the injured Mahmudallah, didn’t get going at all as the hosts dominated another match.
The match was reduced to a 10-over affair. Das won the toss and elected to bowl first. With the short boundaries on all the sides of the wicket, the New Zealand batters took the opposition bowlers to the cleaners. Before Bangladesh could recover from the opening assault and pick a wicket, the hosts had already piled up 85 runs from 5.4 overs. Martin Guptill scored 44 runs off just 19 balls to give the hosts a terrific start.
His partner, Finn Allen showed why he has been one of the most highly-rated batsmen coming out of the New Zealand domestic cricket. Playing only his third T20I match, Allen smashed the Bangladesh bowlers all over the park. His 71 run-knock came off just 29 balls and broke the spirits of the bowlers. His innings included 10 fours and three sixes in it.
Cameos from Glenn Philips (14 runs off 6 balls) and Daryl Mitchell (11 runs off 6 balls) eventually helped New Zealand reach a total of 141/4 from their allotted 10 overs.
Todd Astle and Tim Southee share seven wickets with the ball
In reply to this daunting total, Bangladesh started poorly losing Soumya Sarkar and Das in the first over of the innings. And from there on, the New Zealand bowlers took complete control. As a matter of fact, Sarkar and his opening partner, Mohammad Naim along with Mosaddek Hossain were the only three players who could enter double digits.
Naim was the highest among them with a score of 19. None of the Bangladesh batters could manage a substantial score, including their stand-in-skipper Das who bagged a golden duck. As far as New Zealand bowling is concerned, Todd Astle starred picking up four wickets. His captain Tim Southee picked up three, while Adam Milne, Lockie Ferguson and Philips got a scalp each to bowl out Bangladesh for just 76 runs in 9.3 overs. Bangladesh will return home, having lost both the T20I and ODI series by 3-0.
