Twitter Reactions: Nkrumah Bonner, Jason Holder stabalize West Indies' innings as Antigua Test eventualy poised
With six wickets in hand, West Indies would be confident of earning a lead.
The ongoing first Test match between West Indies and England is evenly poised after Day 2 and it would be interesting to see how the remaining contest pans out. Replying to England’s first innings score of 311, the hosts were 202/4 at stumps on the second day, trailing by 109 runs. With six wickets in hand, West Indies would be confident of earning a lead.
However, the Three Lions must also be hopeful as the track at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua is deteriorating with time. Speaking of the proceedings of the second day, England resumed at their overnight score of 268/6 with centurion Jonny Bairstow and Chris Woakes being in the middle. While the former played some delightful shots early on, Woakes couldn’t add much to his overnight score and perished for 28.
England’s innings wrapped up early
Bairstow’s stay also ended at a personal score of 140. The tail-enders couldn’t do much either as England’s innings wrapped up in the morning session itself. Scalping four wickets, Jayden Seales was the pick of the West Indies bowlers. Then came to bat West Indies and openers Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell provided the side a brilliant start. They stitched up 83 runs for the first wicket before Craig Overton dismissed Campbell (35).
While Brathwaite (55) did bring up his fifty, he perished soon after getting the milestone. As Shamarh Brooks (18) and Jermaine Blackwood (11) couldn’t do much either, West Indies found themselves in a spot of bother, losing four wickets inside 44 runs. Nonetheless, Nkrumah Bonner (34*) joined forces with former skipper Jason Holder (43*) and the duo did the repair work.
They added 75 runs for the fifth wicket and returned unbeaten at stumps. With the top four perished, Bonner and Holder need to continue the good work in order to put their side in command. On the other hand, Joe Root’s men will aim to scalp a couple of quick wickets on Day 3 to regain command. It must be noted that Day 2 ended early with rain playing the spoilsport.
Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitter reacted to the proceedings of Day 2:
