The Paarl Rocks registered a glorious win when it mattered the most as they romped through to the final four stages with relative ease. The Nelson Mandela Bay Giants were below par on the day in all departments and eventually, they lost by six wickets. The Giants earlier won the toss and elected to bat first. The openers found it difficult to get going and skipper JJ Smuts was the first to depart very early in the innings.

Despite getting a few boundaries, Jason Roy once again failed to capitalise on a good start. Ben Duckett and Heino Kuhn followed the suit immediately as the Giants were reduced to 54/4 inside the first 9 overs. A partnership was needed at that stage and Rudi Second’s solid presence in the middle provided some relief to the visitors. Marco Marais joined him to add 46 runs for the 5th wicket but the scoring rate remained on the lower side.

They needed a power-packed finish to get a respectable total on board and Chris Morris provided the blitzkrieg. The all-rounder smashed a 10-ball 27 which included three huge sixes and one boundary. His effort ensured they mustered 18 runs off the final over and registered 129 runs on board.

Delport fires the Rocks into knockouts

It was a pretty easy target considering the Rocks’ batting lineup. Cameron Delport made things all the more easier with his scintillating strokeplay, which left the Bay Giants in a spot of bother. Soon, his lightning struck too hard and in a flash, they were well clear of the target.

Henry Davids and skipper Faf du Plessis tried sticking along to stitch a partnership with Delport, but neither managed to do so. Delport unleashed into the fifth gear alongside Aiden Markram and the duo added 78 runs in 42 balls. Incidentally, the 24-year-old from Centurion could only manage 14 runs in the partnership.

Delport fell short of a hundred as he got dismissed for a 45-ball 84, which included 7 fours and five big sixes. The final hurdle was a walk in the park as they chased the total down with 28 balls to spare. They confirmed their berth in the knockouts whilst the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants will have to wait for the final game to decide their future.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to their thumping win
