Twitter Reactions: Pakhtoons thumped the Tigers to start second round
Afridi's team won with 15 balls to spare.
After finishing the first round at the top of the points table in the T10 League, Pakhtoons, captained by the enigmatic Shahid Afridi, came out all guns blazing in the first match of the second round as they beat Bengal Tigers by seven wickets. The Pakhtoons’ bowlers did exceptionally well to restrict the Tigers’ to a modest score after which Andre Fletcher’s knock guided them to victory.
Bowlers strangle Bengal
Pakhtoons won the toss and elected to have a crack at the Tigers’ batting. Jason Roy and Sunil Narine started in a thunderous manner. Thereafter, former Indian pacer RP Singh got rid of Roy in the third over to draw first blood. The left-arm speedster got rid of Englishman Luke Wright and in the very next over, Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Irfan pinned Narine in front.
Left-arm spinner Liam Dawson nipped out Sam Billings to pick up the fourth wicket. However, Sherfane Rutherford injected momentum into the innings with a knock of 24 runs with three sixes. Mohammad Nabi scored 17 runs off 11 balls with a couple of sixes, but couldn’t take his team over the 100-run mark. RP Singh was the Pakhtoons’ standout bowler with two wickets.
Fletcher flays his willow
Chasing 94 wasn’t expected to pose much threat to the Pakhtoons and they eventually emerged victorious with 15 balls to spare. Sharafuddin Ashraf was sent to open with Andre Fletcher and the move backfired as off-break bowler Mujeeb Ur Rahman cleaned him up in the very first over. Nevertheless, Shafiqullah Shafiq joined Fletcher and the duo put on 58 runs off 22 deliveries.
The stand was broken by Windies spinner Narine with Shafiq’s wicket. Fletcher was nearing his third consecutive half-century, but unfortunately, Zaheer Khan dismissed him for 47 runs, which came off 18 balls with the help of three fours and five hits into the stands. Colin Ingram from South Africa found the boundaries four times to score 27 runs and take his team over the line.
