Australia won the fourth ODI against Pakistan by just 6 runs and moved one inch closer to clean sweeping the hosts at their home. This game at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium witnessed Glenn Maxwell at his best where he took the attack to the opposition bowlers. However, the batting all-rounder was run out when he was batting on 98 and missed out on a well-deserved century.

Nevertheless, his efforts were sufficient to take his team home despite the twin centuries from debutant Abid Ali and wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan. The wicket-keeper batsman scored two centuries so far in the four games. However, both these great attempts went in vain as his side failed to get over the line.

Glenn Maxwell blitzkrieg – A treat to watch

Australia lost the toss yet again and were put into bat first. After scoring two centuries and a half-century in the first three matches, skipper Aaron Finch missed out on getting a big score in this game. Young Mohammad Hasnain dismissed the 32-year-old for just 39 runs. Usman Khawaja played a good knock and accumulated 62 runs.

But Australia lost wickets in quick succession and were subjected to a great deal of pressure. Shaun Marsh, Peter Handscomb and Marcus Stoinis scored 5, 7 and 2 runs respectively. Australia were at 140/5 after 28.1 overs when Maxwell and Alex Carey joined hands together. The duo added 134 runs together before both of them got out in the 50th over for 98 and 55 runs respectively. In 50 overs, Australia managed to get 277 runs on the board for the loss of 7 wickets.

Abid Ali, Mohammad Rizwan fail to get the team over the line

Pakistan rested Imam-ul-Haq in this game and handed over the debut cap to Abid Ali. The 31-year-old opened the innings alongside Shan Masood, who was dismissed for a duck. Haris Sohail also failed to impress and could only score 25 runs. At this point in time, Ali joined hands with Mohammad Rizwan. Both of them added 144 runs together and registered centuries.

Abid Ali was the first to be dismissed for 112 runs. In the absence of regular skipper Shoaib Malik, the middle-order looked very fragile. On his debut, Saad Ali failed to impress as he got only 7 runs. Skipper Imad Wasim also failed to deliver and Pakistan could only score 271 runs in 50 overs. Twitterati congratulated Abid Ali and Mohammad Rizwan for their efforts but felt bad that Pakistan lost. The Australian supporters were over the moon after this close win.
