Twitter Reactions: Rajasthan win the 'Royal' battle in Jaipur with a clinical display
The RCB fought hard till the end, but the dropped catches didn't help their cause.
The Rajasthan Royals (RR) have finally won their first match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). They defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) very easily in Jaipur as the visitors succumbed to their fourth consecutive loss and the season seems to be ending soon for them this year as well. Virat Kohli looked helpless on the field and clearly needs a magic wand in his hand now to turn things around.
Jos Buttler and Ajinkya Rahane began the chase for the Royals and the latter was dropped just on 1 by none other than Kohli and since then, nothing went RCB’s way on the day. Defending 159 runs, they bowled short and wide in the powerplay itself and the game seemed done and dusted. Though both the openers fell thanks to Yuzvendra Chahal who once again bowled exceptionally well to get back purple cap, the result looked a foregone conclusion halfway through the chase.
Moreover, Umesh Yadav dropping Steve Smith in the 16th over when there was still a glimmer of hope didn’t help their cause. Smith was dismissed when the victory was in sight and Rahul Tripathi finished the game in the final over. The duo added an unbeaten stand of more than 50 runs as the Rajasthan Royals cantered to victory with seven wickets in hand.
Parthiv and Stoinis propel RCB
After being put in to bat first, the RCB got off to a brilliant start finally and the opening pair of the season opener, Parthiv Patel and Virat Kohli were back at the top. They added 49 runs together before Shreyas Gopal ran riot in his first couple of overs. He castled the RCB skipper first and then took a superb catch off his own bowling to dismiss AB de Villiers. Shimron Hetmyer’s disastrous season continued and Gopal was the bowler again to dismiss him.
Meanwhile, Parthiv Patel was hitting the ball beautifully and he raced past the 50-run mark. Marcus Stoinis perfectly played second foil to him and proved to be the proper player in the middle-order for RCB. Parthiv scored 67 before getting out and then the duo of Stoinis and Moeen Ali put finishing touches to propel their team 158 runs for the loss of four wickets after 20 overs.
The score looked below par but the way they looked down and out at the halfway mark, it was still a better effort from the visitors. However, the Royals made light work of the chase to register their first win of the season and they would love to be consistent from here on.
