Twitter Reactions: Rishabh Pant resorts to sledging Handscomb and Khawaja
During India’s innings, Pant too got an earful from Pat Cummins.
The second day of the opening Test between India and Australia in Adelaide turned out to be in favour of the visiting team as they are still 59 runs ahead with just wickets to pick. The Aussies were caught napping owing to some disciplined Indian bowling and they went into their shell. In the meantime, there was an instance of sledging by wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant.
At one point in time, Australia were reeling at 59 for three in the 28th over. The fourth-wicket stand was between Usman Khawaja and Peter Handscomb and the duo added 28 runs in 69 balls. The batters didn’t take any risk whatsoever and played the Indian bowlers with utmost care. On the other hand, the Indian bowlers kept hitting the right channels time and again.
Rishabh Pant sledges the Aussies
Pant found this as an opportunity to get under the skins of the opponents’ batsmen. The 21-year-old is pretty vocal and keeps saying something or the other from behind the wickets. To disturb the Aussie batsmen’s concentration, he kept saying ‘not everyone is Pujara here’. The keeper was somewhat successful in his intentions as the partnership couldn’t stand the test of times.
Pujara was indeed a thorn in Australia’s flesh in the first innings. The Saurashtra-born stalwart racked up 123 runs from 246 deliveries with seven boundaries and a couple of sixes. He was the only Indian batsman who put his head down in order to stave off the Aussie bowlers with sheer expertise. India, at one point in time, were reduced to 19 for three in the 11th over.
Pujara took his time to get going, but gradually got the measure of the conditions and the bowling. During India’s innings, Pant too got an earful from Pat Cummins when he tried to slog him. All of this led to Pant returning the favour back to the Aussies.
