It was all about Rohit Sharma in Lucknow. The opponents are always whenever this man comes out to bat and despite that he manages to just blow them away. He did the same in the second T20I against the Windies and went on to slam the record fourth T20I ton of his career. Rohit became the first batsman in the World to achieve such a staggerring feat and was also the first Indian batsman to play out full quota of 20 overs. Thanks to the skipper, India thumped the Windies by 72 runs to seal the series.
After being invited to bat first on a pitch which the curator had claimed that even the score of 130 will be tough chasing, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan started off cautiously. The long boundaries kept giving them easy singles and doubles even in the powerplay. However, the former started opening his hands from the other end in the Oshane Thomas’ third over of the spell.
His shot straight down the ground opened the floodgates and Rohit didn’t stop after that. Some scintillating shots were on display as the packed Ekana Stadium was treated to a superb knock. Meanwhile, Dhawan just looked to play himself in and clearly, was out of touch. Though he went on to play a delightful knock scoring 43 runs off 41 balls.
Rishabh Pant was promoted but he failed once again while KL Rahul enjoyed his stay in the middle scoring 26 off just 14 balls. Rohit, however, made sure that he made most of his time in the middle.
Poor chase from Windies
Windies were never in the chase. They looked under pressure from the word go and the Indian bowlers never let them off the hook. Shimron Hetmyer was sent to open the innings but none of the moves from the visitors worked for the Caribbean side. The likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed and Jasprit Bumrah were brilliant with he new ball and the spinners were clinical as usual.
All the bowlers were amongst the wickets except Krunal Pandya who affected a run-out as Windies could only reach 124/9 after 20 overs to fall short of the target by a whopping 72 runs. They have lost yet another series to register their eighth loss in the format this year. On the contrary, India pocketed the series at home stamping their authority in these conditions and have now won 11 matches this year in the format.
Here’s how Twitter reacted during the match:
