The Rising Pune Supergiants took on the Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in a humdinger of a contest. Captain MS Dhoni won the toss as RPS elected to field first. While DD brought in Imran Tahir, Carlos Brathwaite, Jayant Yadav and Pawan Negi, Pune had the two new additions Usman Khawaja and George Bailey coming in.
Batting first, Delhi lost Pant early. Karun Nair and Sanju Samson played at a good pace before JP Duminy and Billings took over. While all the batsmen got good starts, they failed to convert it and that is the reason Delhi couldn’t put up a decent total on the board.
Brathwaite and Negi gave some finishing hits as DD scored 162/7 in their quota of 20 overs. Scot Boland and Rajat Bhatia were the pick of the bowlers picking 2 wickets apiece.
On the other hand, RPS began in a splendid fashion as both the openers put up a good partnership in the beginning. Usman Khawaja though struggled to get going while Ajinkya Rahane raced his way to 63 runs from 48 balls. Saurabh Tiwary and MS Dhoni provided good support to him before Thisara Perera gave the finishing touches.
Rising Pune Supergiants went on to win by 7 wickets with 5 balls to spare. With this victory, RPS managed to stay afloat in the tournament. For DD, Imran Tahir did well before getting smashed for 14 runs in his last over.
Twitter kept everyone entertained with some superb tweets throughout the RPS-DD game. Right from lauding Billings to trolling Delhi’s changes, from lauding Rahane to trolling Duminy’s captaincy, here are some of the Twitter reactions that took place during the game:
Pune just about alive. And Rahane, you can play through but need to bat at a decent rate. Can't bat at that pace in name of playing through.

Don't see Rahane finish the game. After all, he is a Mumbaikar. ??

Sam Billings has been outstanding in the field. The catch to dismiss Dhoni perhaps the best yet of this tournament. Match-turner too?

THAT is how highly Dhoni rates Negi, 3rd TIER. #DDvRPS

This IPL is a fine example as to why Virat Kohli the batsman needs the Captain Dhoni, and why Dhoni needs the batsman Virat Kohli #DDvRPS

Ajinkya Rahane now has 23 fifty plus scores in IPL. He took 37 or more balls for completing his fifty on 19 occasions. #IPL #DDvRPS

At the end of the last gm Dhoni said he wanted 1 of his batsmen to bat through the innings while others played around him. Can Rahane do it.

Brisk opening stand, Rahane looking good, Zak absent & Delhi's best bowler Mishra suddenly error-prone. Should be easy for Pune from here

Billings needs to be careful, if he plays too well he will be dropped for the next game.
