Twitter Reactions: Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik announce parenthood in style
She is out of action due to a jumper knee issue since October 2017 while the cricketer is taking his time-off after the Pakistan Super League.
Pakistan all-rounder and former captain Shoaib Malik and one of India’s most celebrated tennis stars Sania Mirza announced that they are expecting a baby in style. Despite the tension that exists between both India and Pakistan, the couple has shown that love and marriage can overcome all the barriers that come their way. The two have managed to balance their respective sports careers for their country and have successfully juggled the multiple external problems that they came across since their marriage.
The couple is now set to experience the joy of parenthood for the first time and took to social media to share the news with their fans. After 8 years of marriage, Sania and Shoaib announced the news about their firstborn with the most adorable picture and message with the caption “#BabyMirzaMalik”, she confirmed the speculation of her pregnancy and announced their first baby.
Earlier this year, she was asked about motherhood during a panel discussion on ‘Gender Bias’ which she said, “My husband and I have spoken about it and we have decided that whenever we have a child, the child will have Mirza Malik as a surname and not just Malik. So that’s where we stand as a family including my husband. He actually wants a daughter.”
The Indian tennis superstar has been out of action due to a jumper knee issue since October 2017 while the cricketer is taking his time-off after the Pakistan Super League. At the start of the year, Sania had said that she was hoping to make a comeback to competitive tennis at the French Open. Sania’s father and coach Imran confirmed that the six-time Grand Slam champion is indeed expecting a child.
“Yes, it’s true,” Imran told as quoted by India Today adding that the baby is due in October.
It is unlikely that she would retire from tennis after the childbirth because that sounds unlike her. More so, there have been examples of women tennis players coming back after pregnancy. Serena Williams had won the 2017 Australian Open when she was few weeks pregnant with her daughter Alexis Olympia and returned to the WTA Tour last month. Former world number one and Belgian star Kim Clijsters had come out of retirement in 2008, one year after giving birth to her daughter.
