Twitter Reactions : Shakib-Tamim Iqbal stand and Mushfiqur blitz lift Bangladesh to respectability
Tamim and Rahim's 50-run stand came off just 19 balls.
Bangladesh didn’t have an auspicious time in their previous Test series against the Windies. They lost both the matches in Antigua and Jamaica respectively and weren’t able to give the opponents a run for their money by any means. Mashrafe Mortaza and his troops are currently playing the first of the three-match ODI series at Providence Stadium in Guyana.
Shakib and Tamim steady the ship
Mortaza won the toss and elected to bat first. Tamim Iqbal and Anamul Haque commenced proceedings for the visiting team. The first over bowled by Andre Russell turned out to be a frugal one as he only conceded a wide. Jason Holder struck first blood in the second over with the wicket of Anamul Haque Bijoy. The Windies captain churned out a delivery, which shaped away from the batsman.
Ashley Nurse grasped a simple catch at second slip. Shakib Al Hasan joined Tamim in the middle and both were required to bail their team out of jail. The duo didn’t blaze away but ensured that the scoreboard kept ticking. Both eventually stitched together a partnership of 207 runs from 258 deliveries. The duo was also lucky for the fact that there were as many as four dropped catches.
Mushfiqur injects the impetus
Just when it seemed that the stand was all set to take the bowling to the cleaners in the death overs, Devendra Bishoo accounted for Shakib’s wicket. The left-hander tried to clear the leg side boundary with a sweep stroke, however, smacked the leather straight down the throat of Shimron Hetmyer, who took an impressive catch. He was dismissed for 97 runs.
Tamim carried on and scored his tenth ODI ton. Most importantly, he played till the very end and finished with 130 runs from 160 balls. Nevertheless, it was Mushfiqur Rahim’s brief cameo of 30 runs from 11 balls, which propelled their score to 279 in 50 overs. Tamim and Rahim’s 50-run stand came off just 19 balls. Mahmudullah finished the innings with a boundary off the last ball.
