Twitter Reactions: Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh to take a 1-0 lead in T20I series
Bangladesh registered their 8th consecutive defeat in T20Is.
In the first T20I match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at Colombo, the hosts Sri Lanka beat the visitors Bangladesh by six wickets as they convincingly chased down the target of 156 in 18.5 overs with seven balls to spare. Left-handed Kusal Perera 77 (53b, 4sx9, 6sx1) played an inspiring knock to help his team win the match without any trouble.
He was well supported by Upul Tharanga for the first wicket as the duo added magnificent 65-run for the first wicket. This laid the foundation for the Sri Lanka’s victory today. Hosts scored 158 for 4 in 18.5 overs to win the match. However, Tharanga (24) got dismissed off Mortaza giving a simple catch to Mustafizur. Then Mortaza also dismissed Munaweera (8) within 10 balls as Sri Lanka lost their 2nd wicket with just 79 runs on the board after 8.4 overs.
But thereafter, Sri Lanka strengthened their position carefully as Perera’s spectacular shots across the ground kept the audience and his team delighted. Eventually, Lankans wrapped the match at 18.5 overs as Prasanna 22 (12b, 4sx1, 6sx2) and Thisara Perera 4 (1b, 4sx1) smashed match-winning 11 runs in the last four deliveries of the Lankan innings after opener Kusal Perera’s dismissal.
Earlier, winning the toss, Bangladesh opted to bat first. Their decision proved futile as the opener Tamim Iqbal (0) got bowled for a duck in the very first over of the match off Lasith Malinga. But Bangla Tigers then put up a good fighting total to take their scorecard to 155 for 6 after 20 overs.
Bangladesh shaped their innings well with 7.8 RPO. Soumya Sarkar and Sabbir Rahman added a 57-run partnership for the second wicket. However, after Sabbir Rahman (16) got out in 5.1 overs, then Sarkar (29) also got out at 5.5 overs leaving the Bangladesh to languish at 57 for 3. Some late fireworks from Saikat 34 (30b, 4sx3) and Mahamudullah 31 (26b, 4sx3) eventually took the Bangladesh’s score above the 150-run mark.
