When you have the monster among men Chris Gayle in your ranks, you would expect the big Windian to carry out the demolition job. But on Saturday, Evin Lewis took the responsibility to secure the third consecutive victory for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. The opposition skipper Darren Sammy won the toss and decided that his team St Lucia Stars will be bowling first.

Gayle was dismissed very early and he was followed by the veteran Pakistani batsman Mohammad Hafeez, who didn’t trouble the scorers much by departing for a golden duck. Brandon King and wicketkeeper Devon Thomas also did not last much longer, but on a day when Sunil Narine single-handedly won the game for Trinbago Knight Riders, the job was done by Evin Lewin in this match.

The opener stayed at the crease for a long time and played a superb knock of 92 runs off just 52 balls. The innings was finished on a high by the Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, who scored 24 runs in just 9 deliveries. By the end of 20 overs, Patriots managed to get to 196 runs. 197 was always a very tough target to achieve and the Stars failed to do justice to their name.

Andre Fletcher played a good knock of 48 runs in 33 balls for the stars, but except him, everyone failed to stay at the crease for a long time as the Patriots swiftly drove towards victory. Kyle Mayers and Rahkeem Cornwall played some handy knocks down the innings but that was not enough to take the Stars home, as skipper Darren Sammy and experienced foreigners Shane Watson and Kamran Akmal failed to perform when the team needed them the most.

With this win, the Patriots are second in the points table, having played two matches less than the toppers Trinbago Knight Riders. St Lucia Stars are in desperate need of some motivation from somewhere as they have lost their fourth consecutive match, thereby not leaving the bottom of the table.

Twitterati was in awe of Lewis, who delivered the ball into the stands seven times in the game. Speaking of the Stars, they failed to offer a starry show to their fans once again and hence was subjected to trolling.
