Mumbai Indians (MI) have once again climbed to the top of the points table with a handsome win over the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). The three-time champions have also managed to register their first win in five matches over the Royals. It was yet another brilliant day for them on the field while the Steve Smith-led Royals continued to underperform out of Sharjah.

Earlier, it was due to Suryakumar Yadav that MI posted 193 runs on the board. He came out to bat after Quinton de Kock got out in the fifth over of the innings and played smartly. The going got tough in the middle-overs as RR hit back with quick wickets. In the 10th over of the innings, Shreyas Gopal got the better of Rohit Sharma (35) and Ishan Kishan off consecutive deliveries.

This is when Surya took control of the innings and played some brilliant shots to leave the bowler stunned. He literally toyed with the field finding the gaps and hit 11 fours during his unbeaten stay in the middle. However, the most special shot was the reverse lap off Jofra Archer in the 19th over which went for a six. He played this shot after he was hit on his head on the earlier delivery.

Hardik Pandya also played a vital hand after coming in at 117/4 and made sure that MI reached 193 runs for the loss of four wickets after 20 overs. Shreyas Gopal picked 2/28 while the debutant Kartik Tyagi also impressed with his pace returning with the figures of 1/36.

Jos Buttler’s lone fight in the chase

Jos Buttler was the only batsman for the Royals who played well in the chase. The fact that he scored 70 off 98 runs of the team before getting out clearly depicted the sorry version of RR batting in the game. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson got out to Trent Boult for a duck while the skipper Steve Smith’s poor run continued as he was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah.

Mahipal Lomror also scored only 11 runs to leave the team in a hole at 42/4. Watching all the harakiri at the other end was Jos Buttler and looked helpless. He took the attack to MI’s bowlers in the second half of the chase threatening to take the game away. Sensing the danger, Rohit Sharma brought back James Pattinson into the attack and he did the job for his skipper.

However, the majority of the credit of Buttler’s dismissal has to go to Kieron Pollard who plucked a blinder at long-off to send the last threat back into the hut. The England batsman four fours and five sixes before getting out and even after his blitzkrieg, the Royal lost the game by 57 runs. Rather Royals lost their last six wickets for only 38 runs to get bowled out for 136 runs in the 18th over of the innings.

Bumrah finally found his groove to pick four wickets while the likes of Trent Boult, James Pattinson and Rahul Chahar also bowled well.
