If the game against India had made everyone feel that this England team should be playing the current matches for the national side, the last two games have reminded everyone of what England did in the Test series. The English batting line-up has fallen flat in both matches. While they were bowled out for 121 against South Africa, they could manage only 78 runs this time around.

Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bowl first. Tillakaratne Dilshan started things off with the ball while Phil Mustard took strike. The Sri Lankan captain struck gold with his very first delivery as he dismissed the English opener leg before wicket. It was later revealed that the batsman had edged the ball and it was an umpiring blunder.

Nevertheless, Dilshan had his first and he converted the over into a wicket maiden. In his second over he got two wickets conceding only a single. He dismissed the in-form Kevin Pietersen and Usman Afzaal. After bowling two overs in the powerplay, he came back in the 10th over and once again managed to get a wicket. He finished with figures of four wickets in four overs conceding only six runs.

The England top five in total managed to score only 10 runs. Chris Tremlett played an attacking cameo to score 22 runs in just 10 balls which included three sixes. The English side finished with a score of 78-9 at the end of their 20 overs.

Chasing 79 was never going to be a tough task but Monty Panesar definitely made did cause some jitters in the Lankan dugout. He took four wickets conceding only 26 runs in his four overs. While batsmen from both teams were struggling, Dilshan made a meal out of the chase.

It was by far his day and he made it count. He scored 61 runs off 26 balls in a knock which included 11 boundaries and one maximum. Sri Lanka chased down the target in 7.3 overs to win the game by six wickets. They won this game comprehensively due to which their good net run rate helped them reach the number one spot in the points table.
