Twitter Reactions: Twitter trolls new IPL team Rising Pune Supergiants for its name

The Pune franchise that was introduced for IPL 2016 along with the Rajkot today unveiled the logo and its name as the Rising Pune Supergiants ahead of the 9th season of the tournament. Sanjiv Goenka’s team also announced that India’s ODI and T20I skipper Mahendra Sings Dhoni will lead the side in the upcoming edition of the cash rich Indian Premier League (IPL).

The team spent 12.5 crores for the first pick which was MS Dhoni with the subsequent picks costing 9.5, 7.5, 5.5 and 4 crores, they drafted Ajinkya Rahane, Ravichandran Ashwin, Steve Smith and Faf du Plessis respectively.

Sanjiv Goenka owner of the franchise was quoted by PTI at the event saying, “I welcome Dhoni as the captain of Rising Pune Supergiants for the 2016 season.”

“He has always been a phenomenal leader for teams that he has represented including the Indian side. His track record in both domestic and International arenas have been remarkable. I firmly believe he will lead our team extremely well on and off the field.”

“Practically we hope there will be complete harmony in the team. The likes of MS, Steve Smith and Faf du Plessis are seasoned leaders. I don’t think there will be any chance of a friction in the team,” he said.

Though the management was elated after announcing the team name as ‘Rising Pune Supergiants’ which abbreviates to RPSG Twitter did not like the name and there was instantly a flood of tweets trolling the team for the name.
