Twitter Reactions: 'Unstoppable' Pat Cummins shines as England's misery continues in 3rd Ashes Test

On expected lines, Australia continued to dominate England in the third Ashes Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Batting first at the venue, the Three Lions suffered yet another batting collapse and got bundled out for a paltry 185. In reply, the Aussies finished the day at 61/1 and would undoubtedly be the happier of the two sides. It must be noted that England are trailing 0-2 in the five-match series. As the Ashes urn is currently with the Aussies, Joe Root’s men need nothing less than a win to keep their hopes of taking Ashes home alive. However, they won’t be happy by the way things proceeded on Day 1. Meanwhile, Australia won the crucial toss and opted to bowl first in the Boxing Day clash. Joe Root led England’s fightback yet again Skipper Pat Cummins, who missed out the last fixture, returned in action and immediately made his presence felt. He made the new ball talk and ripped apart England’s top order. Like the previous games, Joe Root again came to the part and tried to steady the ship by making his bat talk. The right-handed batter showcased great intent and played some delightful shots. He even got to his half-century in pretty quick time. However, he fell prey to Mitchell Starc immediately after getting the landmark. The likes of Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow did get starts but none of the two could play an impact knock. Besides Cummins, veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon also enjoyed an impressive outing and took three wickets. Mitchell Starc also got a couple of scalps. With such a dismal total on the board, England needed early wickets which they didn’t get. Marcus Harris and David Warner tackled the new ball with precision and added 57 runs for the first wicket. At the fag end of day’s play, Warner fell prey to James Anderson as the hosts finished at 61/1, trailing just 124 runs behind England’s total. Considering the current scorecard, Australia are entirely in command and England need to play out of their skin to make a comeback in the hunt.
