Twitter Reactions: Virat Kohli crafts a well-compiled 40th ODI century in Nagpur
Kohli brought up the ton in 107 deliveries.
It goes without saying that Virat Kohli has carved himself a position amongst the legends of the game owing to his run-churning spree in international cricket. He has hardly gone out of form and has turned out to be a massive headache for the opponents. Today, the 30-year-old from Delhi went on to notch his 40th One Day International century against Australia in Nagpur.
The right-hander wasn’t at his fluent best at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, but he made sure that he blends caution with aggression and never throws his wicket away. He looked good in the opening match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad and fell prey to leg-break bowler Adam Zampa, who trapped the batsman plumb in front.
Virat Kohli smothers the Aussie bowling
In Nagpur, Kohli came to bat after Pat Cummins got rid of hometown boy Rohit Sharma for a six-ball duck. He took his time and put on a 38-run stand with Shikhar Dhawan for the second wicket. He saw Ambati Rayudu’s wicket fall in the 17th over. However, Vijay Shankar turned out to be an appropriate foil for the experienced Kohli and the duo added 81 crucial runs.
Shankar, Kedar Jadhav and MS Dhoni got out in quick succession and the onus was then on Virat to shoulder the team to a decent score. He racked up his half-century in 55 balls and looked ominous for the Aussies, who haplessly tried their hearts out to get his wicket. However, the visiting team, captained by Aaron Finch, couldn’t get his wicket and Kohli got to his century.
The batsman scored the century in a mere 107 balls with nine boundaries. It was also his 65th international ton. Speedster Nathan Coulter-Nile bowled a short and wide delivery and Kohli smacked the leather through the point region to get to the milestone. After the accomplishment, Twitter heaped praises on Virat for yet another masterclass with the willow in hand.
