Team India has been dominating terms in the limited overs cricket over the last couple of years. One man who has been a prime architect of their dominance in the shorter formats has been their captain Virat Kohli. Kohli had made it a habit to be amongst the runs on almost every occasion. The Indian skipper did not disappoint in the ongoing third ODI against South Africa either.

Playing at the Newlands, Cape Town, Virat Kohli registered a majestic 150 plus knock. The knock was historic in many ways for the Indian captain. This was the first instance in his career when he stayed at the crease for over a 150 deliveries. His previous best was a 140-delivery stay against Pakistan during his knock of 183 in a Asia Cup half a decade ago. Also, with the century, he became the Indian captain to have hit most number of centuries.

This was his 12th ODI ton as the captain of the Indian team. Interestingly, this was his 12th ton as a captain in 45 ODIs. This roughly equates to a ton almost every four innings, which is herculean by every sense of the word. Furthermore, this was Kohli’s third score in excess of 150 in ODI history. He is only behind Rohit Sharma and Sachin Tendulkar in the list of most 150s for India in ODI cricket.

Also, this was his second century of the series. Earlier, in the first ODI, Virat Kohli had scored a majestic ton to help India chase down the target in Durban. Talking about this particular innings in Cape Town, Virat Kohli arrived at the crease with no score on the board for India. He batted right from the very second over of the innings. He found a very able partner in Shikhar Dhawan. The duo added 140 runs for the second wicket.

After Dhawan’s departure, the Indian innings seemed to crumble. But Virat Kohli held the innings together and his efforts saw the visitors post a total of 303/6 in their stipulated 50 overs. Kohli remained unbeaten on 160 that came off 159 deliveries. His knock was studded with 12 fours and a couple of sixes.

Here is how the Twitterati reacted to Kohli’s milestone number:
