Twitter Reactions: Whole of Asia backing Team India to beat England in the crucial World Cup clash
Pakistan will have a realistic chance to go to the semis if India beat England.
The much-awaited clash between the World Cup hosts England and India is upon us. Many few would’ve thought that Eoin Morgan‘s men will be playing this encounter to stay alive in the tournament. Rather it was supposed to be the rehearsal of the final which the experts had predicted before the World Cup started. Nevertheless, the world will be watching the epic clash as even the other teams are dependent on its result.
India are currently sitting pretty at the second position in the points table and are almost certain to go through to the knockouts irrespective of the result of this match. England, on the other hand, still have their fortunes in their own hands but are left with winning both the remaining matches to guarantee a semi-final spot. However, they will have to go past two of the best teams in India and New Zealand for that and it won’t be easy by any stretch of the imagination.
Pakistan, Bangladesh praying for an India win
Moreover, Pakistan who toppled England to claim the fourth position with a win over Afghanistan on Saturday will be desperately hoping for their arch-rivals to win. This is an interesting situation for the Men in Green but at any cost, they would want India to win. It will clear Pakistan’s path and the equation then will be crystal clear for them. Sarfaraz Ahmed and his troops then will have to only win against Bangladesh in their final league game to qualify for the semi-finals.
Bangladesh are currently on seven points and even they are hoping for the Men in Blue to come up trumps. It will keep them alive as well but the Tigers should then beat India to set up a virtual quarter-final against Pakistan on July 5. If unfortunately, India lose against England, the top four will more or less get confirmed as more results will need to go Pakistan’s way and then hope for New Zealand to win against England.
The cricketing fraternity and even the fans are well aware of the situation and the social media is building for the epic encounter between India and England. While Virat Kohli‘s men will come out with an aim to seal their semi-final spot, the pressure will be on the home side to win the match.
