Twitter Reactions: Zimbabwe post 326, Windies 78/1 at stumps
After batting 47 overs in the day, the Windies scored at a run rate slower than two.
Resuming from their overnight score of 169/4, Zimbabwe batsmen managed to do justice to the recovery initiated by opener Hamilton Masakadza and Peter Moor yesterday. While Moor was dismissed before stumps yesterday, Masakadza continued to bat this morning alongside Sikandar Raza.
Together, they stitched a 90-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Masakadza got out after a marvellous knock of 147 runs. Sikandar Raza followed it up with a stupendous inning worth 80 runs. While he failed to convert it into a hundred, his innings ensured Zimbabwe crossed the 300-run mark.
However, once West Indies reached the tail, it was only a matter of time before the bowlers did the job. The likes of skipper Graeme Cremer and Regis Chakabva failed to make a difference as the hosts were outdone for a total of 326 runs.
Kemar Roach was the pick amongst the Caribbean bowlers with three wickets. The likes of Shannon Gabriel and Devendra Bishoo also got a couple of wickets each. Skipper Jason Holder went wicketless surprisingly. Roston Chase and Kraigg Brathwaite got a wicket each.
Windies, on the other hand, had a really slow approach as they came out to bat. After batting 47 overs in the day, the Windies scored at a run rate slower than two. While this approach seemed to work for them, the team to hold on throughout with Kraigg Brathwaite losing his wicket on the penultimate ball of the 47th over.
Devendra Bishoo walked in as the night watchman for the visitors. Kieran Powell remained not out on 43 after his 123 balls stay at the crease. Windies ended the day on 78/1 in 49 overs as they have been grinding through their innings so far. Skipper Cremer got the lone wicket as he had Brathwaite caught at slip.
