Twitter reacts as Mitchell Johnson propels Perth Scorchers to victory
Here's how Twitter reacted to Mitchell Johnson and Perth Scorchers' performance.
Talk about high profile T20 units across the globe, Perth Scorchers will stand right up there amongst the best in the business. Over the years, their side has managed to overcome various predicaments with ease and have managed to win 3 of the 6 seasons of the newly minted Big Bash League. They are off to a flying start in the 7th season, which keeps them firmly in contention for another title.
Batting first, Melbourne Renegades found it difficult to cope with the Perth bowlers. The Docklands stadium provided a bowling-friendly track and this made the game all the more enthralling. Despite losing skipper Aaron Finch and experienced campaigner Cameron White early, they somehow managed to craw towards a decent total.
Marcus Harris 25-ball 32 and Tom Cooper’s 24-ball 34 played a crucial role in helping their side avoid humiliation. Melbourne registered 130 runs for the loss of nine wickets. Mitchell Johnson proved to be the match-winner, with a breathtaking spell of 3/13 in four overs. Certainly, this man has no limits. Helping the senior pro was Andrew Tye, who returned with three wickets as well.
A thrilling run chase
Not many expected the game to go so close, but the ageless Brad Hogg’s unprecedented spell of bowling kept Renegades in the hunt. Afghanistan‘s favorite son Mohammad Nabi made his presence felt in the game by taking the new ball and returning with brilliant figures of 1/16.
David Willey was made to open and the gamble paid off big time. He scored a quickfire 31 and Michael Klinger scored a run-a-ball 37. Adam Voges scored a decent 24 as well, but just when the top order collapsed, the game got interesting. Though the required rate was under six for a major while, Dwayne Bravo and Bradd Hogg made the Scorchers work hard.
The balance kept tilting towards the end, but the score posted by the Renegades proved to be too less. With a huge six off Kane Richardson, Ashton Turner completed the game in style. The chase was done and dusted in the 19th over, but the Renegades bowlers ensured both the teams’ fans were on the edge of their seats.
