Mohammad Shahzad isn’t a fitness freak and he huffs and puffs on the field at times. In a number of interviews, he has played down the importance of picking up singles. Rather, he prefers to take the bowling by the scruff of the necks and tread the aggressive route. Meanwhile, he doesn’t prefer to run much between the wickets, which he has mentioned previously as a tiring task.

Today, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, he succumbed to a run-out. Ishant Sharma honed in a short-pitched delivery, which rose on to Shahzad. He was cramped for room and he didn’t get on to a favourable position. However, he managed to dab the ball to the point region and took off for a single. The ball went to Hardik Pandya, who is regarded as one of India’s best fielders.

Disappointing match for Shahzad

He picked up the ball and threw down the stumps without much of a fuss. Shahzad was busy looking at the fielder and was caught way short of his crease. It was the first wicket which Afghanistan lost in Test cricket. The swashbuckling cricketer looked a tad lazy while running and had to pay a hefty price for the same. The visitors completely lost momentum ever since and were bowled out for 109 runs.

Mohammad Nabi top scored for them with 24 runs from 44 balls in the first innings, but couldn’t get the team out of jail. They were made to follow on the same day and Shahzad had the chance to make amends in the second innings. To the wicketkeeper batsman’s dismay, he could only score 13 runs from 17 balls with three boundaries. Umesh Yadav got rid of him with an away-going delivery that took the outside edge.

Meanwhile, Gulbadin Naib, one of his teammates, who isn’t there in the Test squad, trolled Shahzad on Twitter. He wrote, “Shazad run out lol.”

Here is Gulbadin’s post:

The comments didn’t go down well with people and they trolled the all-rounder back.
