It was a nervy win for the Bangladeshi Tigers against the hosts Sri Lanka in what was a virtual Semi-Final of the ongoing Tri-Nation series. Riding on Mahmudullah’s explicit knock (43* off 18) under pressure, the men in green gave the Islanders the second hammering on the trot to book a clash against the Indians in the finals on March 18. It was a nail-biting finish that spectated some of the ugly scenes in the ultimate over which were termed against the ‘spirit of the game’ by many concerned.

With Bangladesh requiring 12 off the final six deliveries, the drama unfolded on the second delivery when Mustafizur Rahman in his attempt to play the second successive bouncer of Isuru Udana was run-out at the non-striker end. Unhappy with the decision and asking it to be called as a no-ball, it saw some heated altercations between the players from both the teams. At the same time, Bangladesh’s substitute Nurul Hasan, who was on the field carrying drinks, then exchanged a few words with the Sri Lankans, including Thisara Perera.

Shakib nearly fortified the match

Skipper Shakib-Al-Hasan looked furious at the boundary and nearly fortified the game asking his players to return in their bid to prevent any further playing. But it was later that he was calmed down and the match continued to end it one of the most dramatic fashions considering what prevailed on and off the field.

After Mahmudullah hit the winning runs, a six off the penultimate delivery, the Bangladeshis in the dugout rushed onto the field and sparked some of their wild celebrations including a ‘Nagin Dance’ by the entire team with the skipper taking off his shirt and waving it, sporting an unlikely behavior expected by a national side.

This didn’t even stop as we saw a heated exchange between Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis and Bangladesh’s Sabbir Rahman, ironically during the post-match handshakes, as mentioned by the Dhaka Tribune. Terming this win as one to remember, the Bangladesh players were then spotted doing an unruly celebration as they were later accused by the ground staff as RPS Colombo after a glass shutter was found broken in their dressing room.

This does spark the match officials in business along with the ICC to take some strict actions against the people in question as per the allegations made by the journalists present. Later, it was a flurry of comments on Twitter that saw many criticizing the Bangladeshis for their unlikely behaviour on the field.
