It is not easy for any Indian Premier League team to defend 129 in the finals of the tournament, but Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians have proved that they are the kings of defending totals in the IPL finals. They had previously defended a low total against the Chennai Super Kings earlier in the tournament history and have now upset the in-from team Rising Pune Supergiant to win the title for a record third time.

Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma lauded the efforts of his batsmen and the bowlers for their consistent display throughout the tournament, be it Lendl Simmons who came in during the end leg of the tournament or be it Englishman Jos Buttler for his support in the beginning.

“I feel individual brilliance can win you a few games but what is required to win a championship is team unity and teamwork. These are the factors which I believe personally is very critical to win a championship,” Rohit said in the post-match press conference late last night.

Post the win, the Mumbaikar was lauded for his captaincy skills and the way in which he dealt with the situations in the final. Be it the astute tactics or be it the bowling changes, the Mumbaikar aced it all.

All these qualities made Twitter go gaga over the Indian T20 team captaincy and why Rohit Sharma was more deserving than the present skipper Virat Kohli. Comparing both their performance this season, we could much easily say that Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore were quite not up to the party, while Rohit’s Mumbai team bounced off the glory for the third IPL trophy in their cabinet.

Meanwhile, when Rohit Sharma was asked about his chance as a captain, he said he doesn’t think too far ahead. “That’s thinking too far ahead. I don’t think too far ahead. When the opportunity comes, it comes. I will grab it with both hands,” replied the 30-year-old after the IPL final.

Twitter was not the place that Virat Kohli had to see after their dismal performance in the tournament as the Twitterati suggested that it was high time the Mumbaikar deserved a shot at captaincy, despite his poor batting season in the IPL:
