Twitter welcomes Jasprit Bumrah as he makes into the Test squad

Although playing Bumrah in the XI would be a huge task for Kohli, his selection alone has suggested that the BCCI has had an eye over the development of the player.

The 23-year-old Ahmedabad pacer Jasprit Bumrah has finally been rewarded for his hard work with maiden Test call-up. The right-arm pacer was one of India’s best bowlers in the limited-overs format with back-to-back good performances against Australia and New Zealand.

There were several questions raised by the selectors ahead of their selection for the South African series. One of the biggest question raised was the inclusion of the right-arm pacer. While there was one side, who suggested that Bumrah is best suited to the limited-overs, others suggested that its hight time that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) rewarded the pacer with a Test cap.

However, there is a concern for the team as Bumrah had last played red-ball cricket way back last year when his side Gujarat played in the Ranji Trophy semi-finals.

Since then, he has been heavily involved with the national team in the limited overs format while also representing Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. The right-arm pace was one of Mumbai’s key bowlers in the tournament, where he constantly took wickets for Rohit Sharma’s team.

Bumrah’s performance with red-ball:

Bumrah has picked up 89 wickets in the domestic circuit, in the 26 matches that he has played for Gujarat with best figures of 6/29. The right-arm pacer might not be included in the playing XI, as India already possess a heavy pace attack in the form of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma.

Twitter, however, was very happy for the pacer as it was a long time due for the management to include Bumrah in the squad. Although playing Bumrah in the XI would be a huge task for Kohli, his selection alone has suggested that the BCCI has had an eye over the development of the player.

Here are some of the ecstatic reactions from the fans following the selection of the pacer in the squad for the tour to South Africa:
