Australia captain Steve Smith has continued to torment England bowlers in the ongoing third Ashes Test in Perth at the WACA. He has been prolific touch in this series and has scored his second-ton n three Tests after missing out in the day-night Test at Adelaide. Australia are going from strength to strength as they aim to regain the urn before the historic Boxing Day Test itself. However, Twitterati was aware of the milestone for Smith and erupted soon after he reached his second double-century of his Test career.
The 28-year-old strode out to the middle when Australia had lost a couple of quick wickets in pursuit of 403 runs posted by the poms. He hit his straps with a wonderful boundary through covers which indicated that he was in for a big one. He shared a century stand with Usman Khawaja for the third wicket and looked absolutely unfazed throughout the day. Smith finished the day eight short of his 22nd century which was almost certain that he would notch it up on the third morning.
Twitter erupts
The first thing that happened on Saturday was the century of Steve Smith as the jam-packed WACA stood up to applause the Australian superman. Interestingly, this was also the fastest ton for him in his already illustrious Test career so far. Despite reaching the milestone he didn’t lose his concentration and continued to smash England bowlers around the ground. He brought up his another score of 150 post lunch and looked hungry for more. He didn’t throw his wicket away as he found an able partner in Mitchell Marsh at the other end who looked solid with his technique on his comeback.
Smith brought up his double-ton in the final session of the day and would now love to go past his best score (215) in order to put his side in command of the Test match. Twitterati, however, loved the fluency showed by Smith and hailed him for his stupendous knock. He is still going strong as Australia looks set to take a huge lead on their rivals. England, on the other hand, are staring down the barrel and looked resigned to their fate against Steve Smith who has been tough for them to dismiss in this series.
Here’s how Twitterati reacted to his double-century:
What a player Steve Smith. Doesn’t look like he’s going to get out. Does he ? Well played #Ashes
