Team India is in all sorts of trouble at Lord’s as they are left reeling at 15/3 with yet another rain interruption in the ongoing second Test. The play started in the post-lunch session after a break of almost two hours but only 12 balls were bowled and the visitors lost an all-important wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara. He was involved in a mix-up with his skipper Virat Kohli and had to lose his wicket needlessly.

The ninth over was in progress and the duo had run back until the Long Room of Lord’s due to the heavy rain which dramatically stopped and they were called back. Pujara left the next delivery to the wicketkeeper and then defended the short of a length ball.

But the major brain fade started here as Kohli called him for a quick single only for his partner to respond quickly. For some strange reason, the Indian skipper turns his back on Pujara who had reached halfway through the pitch and they were left looking at each other in the end. In the meantime, Ollie Pope, the debutant, had taken the control of the ball and affected the run-out with utter ease.

Kohli’s mistake

A disastrous decision at the first place from Virat Kohli has cost India a huge wicket in the short passage of play and it seems it is very tough for India to come back from here. There was no reason to go for a single at that stage and if Kohli had called for it, he should’ve completed and might have reached the other end as well. However, as it stands now, it felt like India came back only to lose a wicket and the rain has stopped the proceedings yet again.

Twitter was livid with the Indian captain as they clearly blamed him for Pujara’s run-out. India’s number 3 batsman and probably the best player after Kohli in these conditions was included in this game after being dropped at Edgbaston. He was looking good as well after spending enough time in the middle. But Kohli’s misjudgement has put India in more trouble and it goes without saying that he will be keen to lead from the front now.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the run-out:
