Twitterati concerned for Alex Carey after he suffered a blow on his chin
Jofra Archer produced a vicious bouncer that got big on Carey.
One of the reasons why Jofra Archer is playing the 2019 World Cup is his ability to generate serious pace and bounce. The Barbados-born is currently England’s leading wicket-taker in the mega event and has ruffled the feathers of a number of batters thus far. The 24-year-old played some chin music in the semi-final against Australia and left-handed batsman Alex Carey had to face his wrath.
Archer nipped out the Aussie skipper Aaron Finch for a golden duck and was looking menacing for the batters. The speedster gave very little away for the batters to work with. He beat the Aussie batters and got under their skins comfortably. After Finch, David Warner and Peter Handscomb perished in no time, wicketkeeper-batsman Carey was out there in the middle taking guard. He tentatively got off the mark with an outside edge that didn’t carry to the slip cordon.
Alex Carey couldn’t handle Archer’s bounce
In the next over, Archer bowled a vicious bouncer that rose on Carey. The leather kept climbing on the batsman, who never got into position to counter it. The ball cannoned into his chin and with the impact, it even pushed his helmet off. Carey dropped his wrists and managed to drop the ball on the off-side. The southpaw also showed a great presence of mind and caught the helmet, which could easily have fallen on the stumps.
The impact was nasty to the extent that Carey suffered a cut on his chin and was bleeding profusely. The scenario scared one and all, especially in Australia, the physio rushed to the scene and attended him. Carey was on four at that point in time. He was treated and his chin was bandaged after which he carried on batting.
He had Steve Smith, who had to fight for his runs courtesy some accurate English bowling, at the non-striker’s end. Carey has been a top performer for the Men in Yellow consistently coming to the rescue and contributing valuable runs lower down the order. In the meantime, Twitterati is worried for Carey after the development at the Edgbaston in Birmingham.
