After the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) extended the application date for the post of the head coach of Team India, former team director Ravi Shastri also applied for the post. Reportedly, it was Sachin Tendulkar who requested him to apply for the post. Since Shastri has the backing of captain Virat Kohli with who he is known to share a good rapport, of some of the BCCI officials, and also of Sachin, it can be safely assumed that he has a greater chance of becoming the next coach of Team India.

In fact, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar also praised Shastri saying that ever since he became the director of the team, its fortunes changed from bad to good. The 55-year-old had also applied for the post last year but had lost to Anil Kumble. Under Kumble’s 1 year tenure, the team performed really well. They also regained the No. 1 spot in Tests. However, an untenable relation between the coach and captain eventually meant that the coach’s stay had to be cut short.

However, many have looked at this whole episode as a pre-planned story. The conspiracy theorists opine that Kumble’s exit was scripted so that Shastri, Kolhi’s confidante, could become the next coach. There are many who feel that Shastri’s appointment as the coach will only prove that in Indian cricket, power vests in the hands of a few who can use it in any which way they would like it.

But if seen from a positive angle, his appointment can also be good news to India’s future because if the captain and coach share a good relationship, it will eventually only benefit the team. But for those who do not think along those lines, here are the tweets which talk about why Shastri is not fit to become the next coach of the team.

Here are few reactions from Twitter
