Twitterati reacts as Australia dominate proceedings versus Bangladesh
Bangladesh found Australian bowlers too hot to handle.
The stage was set for yet another epic encounter of the ICC Champions Trophy between Australia and Bangladesh at Kennington Oval. Bangladesh hoped to repeat their folklore back in 2005, where they defeated the world beating Australian side to change the cricketing culture of the country.
That said, Bangladesh had an inferior side to what they have right now. They hold a better reputation to what they had 12 years back. They have defeated some of the biggest teams to hold the sixth position in the ICC ODI ratings. Bangladesh is currently ahead cricketing giants such as West Indies, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Much depended on Tamim Iqbal as the ardent Bangladeshi supporters hoped that the left-hander would be able to repeat his exploits against the home team in the tournament opener. At the end of the day, it was only Tamim Iqbal’s innings which stood in between Australia and bundling Bangladesh out within 50 overs.
Only three out of the eleven batsmen managed a score of double-digits. Rest had no answer to the dominance from the Australian bowlers. The Asian team had no answers for the likes of Zampa, Hazlewood, Cummins, and even Head. All these bowlers chipped in with wickets at regular intervals to put a lid on the scoring rate.
Mitchell Starc was the pick of the Australian bowlers as he wrapped up the tail along with the priced wicket of Tamim Iqbal, who played brilliantly for 95 and unfortunately missed out on his consecutive ton. In 114 balls, Tamim struck six glorious boundaries and three dismissive maximums, paying no respect for the Australian attack. Bangladesh crawled towards a total of 182 and were bowled out within the 45th over.
A target of 183 in front of the heavy duty batting line up of Australia is expected to be a cakewalk for them. Bangladesh is staring at a knock-out from the tournament after the end of the match.
