Twitterverse react to Kane Williamson's marvellous century
New Zealand posted a target of 292 iin front of the Aussies
The stage was set for yet another classic Trans-Tasman encounter but this time in the ICC Champions Trophy in England. The wound was still fresh from their heart-breaking loss in Melbourne and it was their captain Kane Williamson who scored a magnificent century, full of sparkling strokes to put his side in a decent position.
Australia and New Zealand have had a knack of scripting thrillers in the recent past, be it in an ICC event or at the bilateral fixtures. Who can forget the match at Auckland in the World Cup of 2015, where it went down to the wire and New Zealand won the match by one wicket, in a low scoring affair. Boult and Starc were too hot to handle on that day but it was Kane Williamson yet again who stood out when his team needed him the most.
Williamson ensured that New Zealand didn’t get bowled out and steered his team towards victory with a 42-ball 45, as finished the game off in style by hitting a six off Starc. Two Years Hence, the two teams met yet again in a Group A fixture at Edgbaston, Birmingham and it was the captain who stood out with another ODI ton.
Williamson shines in a rain-curtailed game
The Kiwi skipper came into bat after New Zealand lost the wicket of Guptill who looked in breezy touch. Together with Ronchi and Ross Taylor, Williamson stiched valuable partnerships by milking the bowlers for singles and doubles; and hitting the odd boundaries by finding the gaps, thanks to those beautiful wrists.
Kane Williamson, much to the disappointment of the Black Caps, was, unfortunately, run out just after he brought up his 9th One day century in 96 balls. Overall, the skipper scored 8 boundaries and 3 sixes in his innings of exactly a 100, at a strike rate of 103. His knock propelled the team to a competitive score of 291. Let us look at how Twitterverse reacted to this splendid inning from the captain of NZ.
