Things are developing rather faster with regards to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) ambitious plan to sneak through the mini IPL. It was just two weeks ago that the board announced that it is planning to host the mini-IPL overseas this year and there are reports that North America or in the United Arba Emirates (UAE) are the possible locations the BCCI is working on.

As per the reports of The Times of India, the board would finalise on the venue “very soon” and is also going to call a meeting shortly with the franchises to discuss matters regarding the tournament.

The mini-IPL is likely to commence in September after India’s tour of West Indies. The mini IPL, the shortened version of the Indian Premier League is being introduced as a replacement for the Champions League T20, which was stopped after the 2014 edition.

A source following the broadcasts said that North America could be the eventual hosts of the tournament and the Indian cricketers would possibly fly to the venues directly from the West Indies. On the contrary, another official from the cricket industry claims that the UAE is likely to host the tournament which would suit the Indian television viewers considering the time zone. UAE had also hosted the initial matches of the IPL back in 2014.

BCCI will be taking a decision on this very soon as it is hardly a couple of months away. “They’ll be calling for a meeting soon, probably within the next two weeks,” a franchise official said as quoted by cricbuzz.com.
