Due to the stern situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the whole world has come to a standstill and everyone has been suggested to stay indoors in such trying times. The pandemic has also taken a toll on the sporting scenario as all major tournaments including much-awaited IPL 2020 have been postponed indefinitely in the wake of the pandemic.

Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, many cricketers have stepped up their social media activity. Many cricketers are conducting Q&A sessions on Twitter and Instagram live in order to stay connected with their fans amid the quarantine period.

Rajasthan Royals spin consultant Ish Sodih and batsman Jos Buttler also decided to entertain their fans by doing a candid chat on Instagram. Sodhi, during the chat, asked the England batsman a question that was aimed at teasing the latter. The New Zealand spinner pulled Buttler’s leg by asking him about the Mankad incident from IPL 2019.

The mankading incident had left the world divided into two halves

The ‘Ashwin-Buttler’ mankading incident had hogged the headlines in last year’s IPL after the Indian off-spinner had mankaded Buttler during a match between Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals. Sodhi took a dig at Buttler during the chat and asked him– “Which Rajasthan Royals batsman was dismissed by a Mankad?”

Here’s how the conversation went between both the players:

“Which Rajasthan Royals batsman was dismissed by a Mankad?” Ish Sodhi asked Jos Buttler to which the World Cup-winning star just laughed.

Here’s the conversation between Sodhi and Buttler about Mankading.

Ish Sodhi: Which Rajasthan Royals batsman was dismissed by a Mankad?

Jos Buttler: Can I just say… (laughs)

Buttler: I don’t know. Is that even a way of deciding dismissal these days?

Sodhi: Shouldn’t be mate. I am with you Jos, it shouldn’t be, mate.

Buttler: I think that might have been me.

Sodhi: Unfortunate.

Ashwin had run out Buttler at the non-striker’s end after spotting that the English wicketkeeper-batsman was a few inches ahead of the crease. The mankading instance had created a stir in the IPL 2019 as the incident left the cricket world divided into two halves. While some players and pundits had slammed Ashwin’s act, others came in support of the off-spinner saying that there was nothing wrong in what he did.

While Buttler stuck to his opinion that it was a wrong decision to give him out, Ashwin had said post the incident that mankading was withing the rules of the game.

“Everybody who knows me, it is very clear (to them) that I don’t do anything that is illegal. Even my team has stood behind me since then. A lot many players have come to me and said whatever I did was absolutely right,” Ashwin had said while defending himself against the criticism that he received.
