Unhappy with Australia's ODI squad, Shane Warne comes up with his own playing XI
Warne was stunned to see the squad.
Australia, on Friday, announced the 14-man squad for the forthcoming One-Day International series against India. Both the teams will lock horns in three ODIs following the conclusion of the ongoing Test series. And while the majority would have expected Australia to name a strong squad for the series against the tough opponents and the upcoming World Cup, the selectors did manage to spring quite a few surprises.
The hosts have rested their star pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins owing to the workload the three bowlers have faced in the Test series. The onus have now been put on Jhye Richardson, Jason Behrendorff, Peter Siddle and Billy Stanlake to take care of the pace bowling department. Siddle, who recently impressed in the Big Bash League (BBL), has not played an ODI since 2010.
The selectors have also dropped Chris Lynn, D’Arcy Short, Ben McDermott, Travis Head and Ashton Agar from the squad. All the four players were in the team that lost the ODI series against South Africa at home a couple of months ago. In addition to that, the selectors have also recalled batting duo Mitchell Marsh and Peter Handscomb to bolster the faltering batting line-up.
Shane Warne’s team:
Like many, legendary spinner Shane Warne is also not satisfied with the team selection. Consequently, the former Australian cricketer took to Twitter to reveal his own team.
Expressing his disappointment over the squad, Warne wrote, “Just saw the Aust ODI squad that was announced & was absolutely staggered at some of the players that were left out & some of the inclusions – they don’t make any sense whatsoever. I was asked by @foxcricket to give my team – so here it is! Thoughts? Agree ?”
Warne included D’Arcy Short, Ashton Agar as well as Zampa in the squad. He also said that either of Chris Lynn or Nathan Lyon should be in the team.
