Yasir Mohammad earns maiden call-up as USA announces 14-member squad for World Cup League 2 series
Senior pacer Rusty Theron also made comeback in the squad.
Pacer Cameron Stevenson also returns to the USA squad
In a big boost to USA cricket, pacer Cameron Stevenson has also made a return to the squad after a gap of two years. Meanwhile, all-rounder Ian Holland will not be a part of the squad after he decided to prioritizs his Hampshire commitments instead of the national duty.
Apart from Holland, some other crucial names including senior batter Xavier Marshall, pacer Jasdeep Singh and young left-arm spinner Vatsal Vaghela have also been left out. To note, all these players were part of the team during the Ireland series. However, veteran pacer Rusty Theron is making his way back into the ODI into the squad after being out of the action for a long time.
“The selection panel has predominantly stayed with a similar squad to that chosen for the Ireland series in December that rewarded the performances of several players who shone at the USA Cricket National Championships in November 2021,” Chair of the Men’s National Selection Panel, Michael Voss was quoted by Cricbuzz.
“The form and performances at the recent training camp in Texas were also considered with Yasir Mohammad coming into the ODI squad for the first time. The squad has a nice balance of youth and experience, and we’re particularly pleased to see the fast bowling stocks in good order with Ali Khan in his local conditions and a return for Cameron Stevenson giving us plenty of options alongside Saurabh Netravalkar and Rusty Theron who were both outstanding in Texas last month,” he added.
